If I won the lottery, I wouldn't be one of those people who'd immediately quit their job. I'd make my boss's life a living hell for a week or two first.

Blue Dragon - My Review

Posted by TITROTU - August 31st, 2007

Well, I recently purchased Blue Dragon, an RPG for the Xbox 360. Let me just say right now that Blue Dragon is by far the best game on the 360. And I say that from the heart. (Halo 3 can suck my balls. Seriously, I'm not even touching that game until the heat dies down.)

Blue Dragon is something most RPGs aren't: old school. Think back to the days of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. Blue Dragon is pure classic fun. Today's RPGs are totally dependent on having huge epic storylines with multiple endings based on the characters actions. While that might be amusing for some, Blue Dragon goes back to the basics: Bad guy wants to take over the world, so the good guys try to stop him.

Another thing I loved about the game were the turn-based battles. It's really a breath of fresh air to go back to the glory days. Not that I don't like real-time battle system found in games such as Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy XII, It's just that the foundation of RPGs were built on turn-based battles, and it's nice to see people still admire the classic nature of the genre.

Now on to the graphics. They are AMAZING! Quite possibly the best on the console. A crisp and colorful environment filled with characters designed by the legendary Akira Toriyama. What more could you want?

Now some critics disliked Blue Dragon for the very reason I enjoyed it, and it's true that some people will not like the classic approach it has taken. However, if you're one of the people who loved the RPGs of the 90's, or even if you're a kid growing up now who wants to see what a classic example of an RPG is, Blue Dragon is for you.

Score: 9/10

the game looks pretty good, but there's no way i can go back to the turn based fights...they're just too repetitive and stale for me. that's my worthless opinion anyways :)

Once I saw it's low scores on IGN and Gamespot I decided that I probably won't buy it. You might've just changed my mind :)

Don't listen to those idiots over there. If you look closely at the user reviews at GS, you'll notice the score is a more fair average of 7.3

If you don't feel like buying it, it's definitely a rent. :)

I really do love old school RPGs but I saw this game in the store and really don't know if I should buy it. How long is it? Is it hard and easy to LVL up? and is it a challange without it being impossible or do I have to run back and fourth for hours trying to level up?

The game ships in three discs, which should take about 50 hours to complete without going on side quests. I would say the level-up system is set at a medium difficulty. At times the game's enemies and even some bosses were pretty easy to defeat. I'm about 9 hours into the game and currently at Lv 19.

I have been hearing a lot of not so great things about BD. Not that it is bad but that it's just nothing special.

When I tried the demo, I got so angry at the overall layout and presentation of the game itself since I'm studying to be a Game Designer when I graduate. (Working with my GPW team in two weeks.) How the demo showed the plot, the battle system, and the battle system's music made me want to punch someone.

I'm pretty harsh about those things since we've been taught to analyze stuff like that, but has it improved in the final version? The concept of the game is rather interesting. I must admit that. There's plenty of potential. It's just that the demo developed a strong hate inside me. I just hope that the real thing is better so that I may feel alittle better about it.

i bought this game, after a game from the store recommended it. he didnt know any decent online games, so he recommended BD, saying it was like FF and was a good RPG.

however, i did enjoy it, i sold it as soon as i finished it. i think i was about level 54 with everyone, and i absolutely annihalated the last boss. seriously, it was way too easy.

i will admit, i did power train my SP ranks, but it shouldnt be that easy.
I'm not saying it was a bad game, as i really did like it, but like i said, too easy when you get above level 50.

oh, and the achievements are basically impossible. what, 99 rank for eveything gets me 50g? yeh right! i only managed to get 55 from that game in the end.

The game is ok. I rather play FF VII any day than that game. Yeah.....
